Folders vs. Index Pages

Folders and Index Pages can look similar in the Pages panel, and we often get questions about how they compare. This guide covers the primary differences, best practices, and other things to consider when adding afolder or an Index Page to your site.

Folders are primarily used for creating drop-down menus in your navigation. This can be helpful if you want to group related pages together or minimize links in a menu.

While folders create drop-down menus, the Index Page is a powerful design feature that displays content by using thumbnail images that link to other pages on your site. Index Pages look different depending on the template.

An Index Page is useful if you want a landing page for multiple galleries or projects. You can also use an Index Page to organize similar content in one place. It's common to set an Index Page as a homepage.

Unlike folders, Index Page titles are clickable and lead to a landing page with content generated from the pages within it.
